Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II — Japan vs US, and Why This One Is Different
Why the numbers are not here
We are checking the licence terms of one of the sources this page relied on. We started publishing its figures before we had read those terms. That was our mistake, not the source's.
Until we have finished checking, we are not showing the numbers. We would rather have an empty page than one we are not sure we are entitled to publish.
What this page said
It compared the Japanese price of one specific camera lens against the US price, and worked out what it would cost to bring one home two different ways. We are not going to summarise the conclusion here, because the conclusion was built on the figures we have just removed.
What is unaffected
The parts of this site that do not depend on that source are still up, and we still stand behind them:
- The warranty does not travel — what happens to the manufacturer's warranty when you buy in Japan, quoted from four independent sources.
- You can no longer buy tax-free and have it shipped home — quoted from the National Tax Agency's own English leaflet.
- Tax-free shopping does not give you 10% back — what eight retailers publish about their own handling fees and warranty policy.
What happens next
One of two things. Either we obtain permission and the figures come back, or we rebuild this page on sources whose terms we have read first. We will say which.
